Carabiner XL goes aluminium: a quality upgrade for powerband-safe training

Carabiner XL aluminium hero

If you train with bands, anchors, and hard attachments, the small hardware is never "just" hardware. A carabiner sits between your effort and your gear. When the edge is rough, a powerband pays the price. When the lock feels vague, you second-guess the setup. That is why we upgraded the Carabiner XL.

This is not a new product for the sake of novelty. It is the same XL workhorse you already know (SKU 000851, EAN 4260205285909), rebuilt with a clearer quality bar.

Why we changed it

Old vs new Carabiner XL

aerobis has always been about gear that survives real sessions, not showroom photos. The previous Carabiner XL used stamped, zinc-plated steel. It did the job, but over time we saw a problem that mattered more than a shiny finish: sharp edges.

Those edges could nick or abrade powerbands. In training, that is the opposite of what you want. A band that fails early is annoying. A band that fails mid-set is worse. So we treated this as a quality issue, not a cosmetic refresh.

The brief was simple: keep the XL format people rely on, remove the edge risk where bands meet metal, and make the piece feel unmistakably ours.

What changed

Side by side

Material: new stock is aluminium, replacing the stamped / zinc-plated steel.

Build: thicker aluminium body. You feel the difference in the hand before you hang anything on it.

Branding: the new version carries the aerobis mark. It is clearly our carabiner, not a generic gate with a label stuck on later.

Lock: blue screw-lock. Close it, check it, train. The colour makes the lock status easier to read at a glance when you are setting up under time pressure.

Blue screw-lock detail

Nothing here is marketing fluff for its own sake. Each change answers a concrete training friction: edge wear on bands, anonymous hardware, and locks that disappear into the setup.

Powerband-safe edges (the practical win)

Powerbands love smooth contact points. They hate burrs and sharp corners. The old steel path could introduce those sharp edges. The aluminium upgrade is built to be kinder where the band rides.

That does not mean you stop inspecting gear. You should still check bands, gates, and anchors like a grown-up athlete. It does mean we removed a known weak spot in the hardware chain on purpose.

If your sessions rotate through band work, attachment points, and frequent re-rigging, this is the kind of upgrade you notice after a few weeks: fewer "why does this band look chewed?" moments.
